But I do know someone who lives in Trier and might have the expertise to tell you what you want to know. Please go to the "About Me" section at the top of the blog to get my e-mail address. If you ask your question again in an e-mail, I will forward it on. I'm 17 and bell ringing is my hobby in England; ringing every week and the occasional Sunday. Bell Ringing is a much-done thing in England still.

I may eventually like to move to Germany. Whilst there is this history for sure, do you know if the practice is continued?

I am doubtful only because the Dove's guide (directory of most places to ring worldwide) does not collate any information for Germany. And I would really not know where else to find out.

Thank you.Jamesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13928417.post-52878184817935464962011-02-16T17:14:31.358-06:002011-02-16T17:14:31.358-06:00A wonderful post, Kathy.

Here bellringing consists of playing'a peal', which is almost a musical instrument.

I love the sound of large bells ringing just the one or two or three sonorous notes, all coming together to make a very distinctive sound. In our village and later on, the town, we could differentiate between the churches by their bells. They still can tell the bells from different cathedrals apart.

Particularly at Easter the sound of the bells from churches all over town was deafening but wonderful.

And of course I know Schiller's Glocke or better 'Das Lied von der Glocke'.Frikohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04277167831642088694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13928417.post-47499942887556069422011-01-27T10:50:44.359-06:002011-01-27T10:50:44.359-06:00Yes it does, Josiane - in fact that sunny-day walk...Yes it does, Josiane - in fact that sunny-day walk gave me the basic material for this blog, as well as a delightful time with a new friend!

I always heard the bells in the small village in Wisconsin where I grew up and I knew Peter, the bell ringer. I was a school girl then. Petie, as we called him, always came out of the bell tower room with a smile on his face. I think he loved those bells.Kathy, the Single-minded Offshoothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07887312817720774699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13928417.post-69573358559423320192011-01-26T22:28:38.692-06:002011-01-26T22:28:38.692-06:00dear kathy
